ANNUAL REPORT 2023/2024
In 2023/24, the Greek Qtr (Greek Precinct Association) continued to promote historic Lonsdale Street via a variety of events, campaigns and projects.
The Precinct has begun to emerge from the malaise of COVID with the Nth East of Melbourne enhancing its reputation for vibrant food and entertainment.
The recently completed Wesley Place offers an enhanced service profile with more and more people returning to their city desks.
ADMINISTRATION
The Precinct once again secured funding through the City of Melbourne’s Precinct program from which it funded the part time employment of the Precinct Administrator and Project lead who oversaw:
- Regular member updates
- Precinct promotion & social media engagement
- Event and Project activations
GOVERNANCE
The Precinct is governed by an elected committee and managed by a part time staff member and many committee volunteer hours.
The Committee represents the precinct member businesses who numbered 54 in 2023/24.
The committee was chaired by Jorge Menidis and featured committee members; Kalliroy Katsigiannis, Dr Jim Bossinakis, Theo Roussos, Nicole Konstas, Tally Konstas and Harry Tsindos.
Antonia Tsamis was retained as the Precinct’s Administrator and Project Lead.
FEATURE EVENTS + ACTIVITIES
ANTIPODES 2024
The marquee event for the Precinct is the renowned Antipodes Festival. The two-day event celebrating the precinct’s historic Greek links saw over 100,000 people attend the precinct contributing to an $8m economic impact on the CBD that the Festival delivers.
THE [GREEK] BOOK FAIR
A gathering from all over Australia of some 40+ publishers and writers brought new patrons to the Precinct across a very successful weekend.
THE STORYTELLING PROJECT
A school holiday project, the event brought together school children looking to hear stories and workshop stories of their own.
CONTENT LONSDALE
Capturing narrative, video and photographic content of Lonsdale Street to use in future campaigns
EVENTS UNDER DEVELOPMENT
STORYBOOK LONSDALE
A curated media project designed to highlight the precinct’s history, evolution, current landscape, and key activities.
WORKSHOPS: CAPTURING THE STORY
An initiative designed to support Precinct Member create and share quality content on social media
FINANCIAL SUMMARY
The Precinct receives funding from the City of Melbourne that underwrites its programs and events.
Other income includes Membership fees and sales from events.
TOTAL INCOME for 2023/2024 was $84,450
TOTAL EXPENDITURE for 2023/2024 was $122,124.27
